John Wesley and his brother Charles are revered as the founders of the Methodist Church — but John’s personal spiritual struggle is often forgotten. Raised in a very religious home, his outward behavior was that of a man of deep faith — but he did not truly understand the grace of God. Appointed chaplain of the new settlement of Savannah in Georgia, a star-crossed romance and failure of his relationships brought him back to England in disgrace. It was only in defeat that he was able to find peace — with the help of a kind Moravian missionary who guided the two brothers to understand the grace of God.
